Club Meeting

For those who have just joined the White Rose Archers; we have a monthly meeting to which all archers
in the club are invited and all can have a say.
The next meeting is this Thursday, 10th July at 20:30 in the club hut after the evening shoot.

An apple for the teacher (with a nod to William Tell)

Congratulations go to John Ball, John Readle & Douglas Readle who have all passed the first stage on the way to becoming coaches. The final part of their assessment is this October.
We all wish them well!

The Force is with him! (with a nod to Star Wars)

Howard Jacobs in his first season as a longbow archer, got his first ever Bowman score scoring 96 in a New National.
Well Done Howard!

Proper Bowmen!

At last we have 3 Bowmen. Steve Tilston & Stuart Graham shooting Longbow and Alistair Crosland shooting Barebow,
have all reached the heady heights of Bowman Scores. Congratulations to all three!

You will wear out the grass!

In the first 4 months of this year, 241 rounds have been shot outdoors, compared to 92 for the same period last year.

For those who don't know, in addition to the regular Sunday and Thursday shoots, a few archers now go to the field on Tuesdays and Wednesday these are daytime shoots. More info can be obtained from Alistair.

Well Done to everyone!

A big Thank -You!
The work day on Saturday (14th) went very well. Stuart writes:-
"Thank you for the excellent turnout at the "greatfield dig". At least 16 archers and 6 cricketershelped to make it a complete success, all the trencheswere dug, the pipes laid and connected, the holes forthe new sign dug and the fence erected. The barbecued bacon butties and the barbecued lunch helped to make the day enjoyable despite the hardgraft."

Anything you can do I can do better!

If you have been keeping up to date with this news page (OK, some of the stories are a few weeks old , but I can only add them when I get them!) you will have read the article below about Keith Shooter. Well, not to be out done, Ann Shooter has become a Longbow Champion!
She writes:-

"The British Longbow Society held their Championship meeting at the Royal Toxophilite Society ground at Burnham in Buckinghamshire.
The weather was good with no wind, ideal conditions for shooting in the longbow.
The ladies were shooting a two way double National, while the men had to shoot a two way York

Coffee was served on arrival and shooting commenced at 10-30. After 4 dozen arrows we had a welcomed sherry break. You either shoot better or worse after the sherry!
Two dozen more to shoot and lunch was served. After a three course lunch and a glass of wine do we really want to go out and shoot again?

Shooting started again at 2-30 and the round completed about 5 pm in time for tea. Prize-giving followed and much to my surprise I was awarded first place on hits. John Geldard was the Gents Champion, again, on most hits. So it was great for the Champions to come from the North of England albeit one from the Red Rose County.

This Tournament is open to any BLBS member, it is a great day out and I recommend you try it for yourself."

Didn't she do well too?

Well Done Keith!

On the 29th August Keith Shooter became the first member in our club's long history to attain a Master Bowman score.
He reached 1168 shooting a York round with his compound bow. Sadly, since it was done on home turf, it will to be classed
as a Bowman score but I think he deserves a "Well Done!" anyway!

Fund raising for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance:-

We are pleased to be able to tell you that White Rose Archers raised £1,515:00 (with hopfully another £190.00 from HBOS to double Alistairs total!)
Members of the club presented the cheque to Paul Bradbury and Pete Vallance of Yorkshire Air Ambulance on September the 1st at Leeds Bradford Airport.
Thank you to all those who helped and supported the events
